Tropical Storm AGATHA

(Guatemala City) -- At least four people are dead and hundreds have been forced from their homes as Tropical Storm Agatha brings heavy rain to the Central American nation.

Two adults and two children were killed when their home was buried in a mudslide 120 miles west of the capital.

Officials there have declared a state of emergency as the tropical storm moves across Guatemala.

President Alvaro Colom says the worst is expected tomorrow morning at nine a.m. local time and that many people are being evacuated from at-risk areas.

Rivers in the country are already overflowing from heavy rain.

Officials warn flooding could be worse than usual due to ash from the erupting Pacaya volcano south of the capital that has blocked drainage systems.

The eruption has endangered the country's coffee crop, the largest in the region.

Agatha is the first named storm of the 2010 Pacific hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center says the storm is moving with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.
